Hungry Heart by Lorene Masters

Hungry Heart: How One Woman Found Love by Lorene MastersMy rating: 5 of 5 stars

Hungry Heart is a true story about how author Lorene Masters found love. This autobiography takes you through the life of a woman who struggled with an addiction to food. Her heartbreaking story began as a toddler when she was traumatically assaulted sexually. Due to her young age and the bustle of getting dinner ready for a large family, her mother thought nothing of her toddler’s babbling words about her pee pee hurting. In response, that sweet little child sat at the table and comforted herself with food – a lot of food. So started her journey that was filled with abuse, rape, and trying to cope by using food. Although with her through it all, her heavenly Father seemed to slip in and out of her life just as her own father did repeatedly. Turbulent years at home were followed by an exciting fresh start. Unfortunately, loneliness came from repeated rejection from men who never had the capacity for the undying love that she so desperately craved. Her fantasized relationships ushered back in the ugly monster of gluttony and purging.
In this book, I was surprised to find my own life-long struggle with sin that had nothing to do with food. Lorene’s beautiful story is one that we can all relate to because we all have at least one major struggle in our life. Hungry Heart holds the key that can break those struggles. I encourage you to read it and discover the permanent solution to emotional bondage that comes from living in a fallen world.
