Listen to the Word

While we on our annual trip, my husband took me to downtown Colorado Springs. There are a few shops there that I like to visit. I saw a teenage boy sitting on a bench with two young children – a boy and a girl. They caught my attention because they were so happy – it seemed like they were related with their blonde curls.

Right after greeting the sales lady in Title Nine all three of those kids came rushing in looking stunned. They couldn’t seem to talk so I asked what was wrong. They said that a homeless man had just punched an elderly woman. I told the young man to call 911.

The sales lady and I went outside and saw the old woman laying on the sidewalk two stores down with a whole bunch of people around her. I watched a man chase the homeless man across the street. He returned to the group but when he saw the old lady laying on the sidewalk violent emotions over took him and he went to take vengeance on that homeless man. Due to the unsettledness of the situation, the sales lady and I went back in the store.

There is a verse that explains what I was dealing with internally, “Your ears will hear a word behind you, ‘This is the way, walk in it,’  whenever you turn to the right or to the left” (Isa 30:21). That word hit me right when those three kids rushed into the store and told us what happened – it followed me out of Title Nine and back in. I could not ignore it. It was telling me to go pray for that elderly woman.

She was sitting on a bench and shaking horribly when I worked my way to her. Getting her attention by kneeling down, I asked if she would let me pray for her. She enthusiastically responded with “Yes please!” She gently placed her shaking hands in mine. That word that was following me suddenly came out boldly but with compassion as I asked the Lord to come and let His peace overwhelm her.

Her hands stopped shaking so I opened my eyes to see that her body was now still. The tremors had immediately stopped – praise God! While she squeezed my hands I commanded the trauma of that punch to leave her. She was so receptive that I continued to pray a while longer. When I was finished she looked me in the eye, thanked me, and then tilted her head up giving thanks to God. It was such a tender moment. I gave her a hug and then left back through the crowd.

For all the chaos, talking, and noise that was going on around her it was like her and I were the only ones in this space of time with the Lord. It was so very very good.

I’m sharing this because maybe my testimony will help you to hear that same Word and do what it says.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men. The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. (Jn 1:1,4-5).
