Finding God
It’s not about getting to the highest rock or finding the best view. It’s about finding my soul in oneness with the Lord right where I’m at – in an open meadow with ancient pines as my sentinels, a flock of tiny birds as my guides, and the flittering golden aspen leaves whispering in my ear.
Lord! You are with me always, but it’s in the woods that You flood my senses. Here, Your nearness is in my being. It is effortless to discover and enjoy who You are. The silence of the pine needle floor and the clear sky serve as dear friends who settle my thoughts. Peace becomes tangible. Stillness wraps around me like the arms of my Heavenly Father.
Sitting in such a state, the wild let’s down its guard. A squirrel skitters unknowingly close by, the neck of an elk suddenly appears, or bear cubs crash through nearly running you over. The depths of Scripture reveal the One True God who is fierce and wild, riding the storm clouds with lightning as His lamp and the thunder echoing His voice.
It is in the quietness of our soul that He comes alive the most.
Choosing quietness instead of retaliation and cries to God instead of revenge presses the heart into the wild Lion of the tribe of Judah. In response, an ancient all-encompassing Presence will bend the heavens with a fierce rage to answer our cries for help. He is a Jealous Guardian who inhabits every cell of those who live in Him. Justice is meted out with perfect jealousy and wrath in defense of those who are under the Lord’s loving care.
The Possessor of heaven and earth is ever active as a warrior, friend, counselor, and comforter for those who live in the Promise Land. Enjoy the fruits of His labors.
